LETTER OF THE DAY: Ditch the 'X' for Christmas this year

Should we stop using Xmas?
Should we stop using Xmas?

READER COMMENT: MAY I make a plea to everyone in our community, including businesses, community groups and the Sunshine Coast Daily, that we keep Christ in Christmas and ban that obnoxious term "Xmas".

This is one of the Christian world's holiest times and, surely, deserving of the correct spelling of the word Christmas.

If you do not respect or accept the true Christian message of Christmas, then please do not claim the holidays under false pretences.

What next - Zac-Day (for Anzac Day), Goodo (for Good Friday) or Liz Day (Queen's Birthday)?

Yes, they all are smaller words and would save space - but also would be totally unacceptable and disrespectful to the true meaning of the events.

Imagine the world outcry - even wars,I would suggest - if we started abbreviating the names of the world's other great religious deities or festivals.

Correct spelling is a small price to pay for sharing in the true joy and spiritual gift of Christmas.
