Life in Brazil: Video shows motorbike hijack, shooting

FRIGHTENING video has emerged showing a taste of violence on the streets of Brazil.

A motorcyclist  wearing a helmet camera  captures the moment a criminal pulls up alongside him at traffic lights and threatens him with a gun in an attempt to steal his motorbike.

But the violent nature of the video gets worse as an undercover police officer sees the crime and shoots the criminal.

A shout can be heard before the policeman fires twice, knocking the thief from the bike. By this point his accomplice has already sped away.

The video was posted to the website Live Leak, and though in a longer version the thief is still clearly alive some six or seven minutes later as policemen stand around waiting for an ambulance, the post includes unconfirmed reports in a caption saying he later died of his wounds.

The alarming video highlights fears being raised over the safety  of visitors to the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics, both to be held in Brazil.
