Life saving clubs on alert

GOLD Coast surf life saving clubs have been put on alert this morning as conditions worsen across the east coast.

Local Disaster Management Group and Emergency Management Queensland have notified all clubs to get prepared in case their help is needed in emergency situations.

Gold Coast Lifesaving Services Coordinator Stuart Hogben said for the time being, clubs were only on stand by.

"At this stage clubs are not expected to do anything, however, they may wish to ensure that they have assets readily available, for example inflatable rescue boats and four wheel drives, as we may be asked to assist other emergency services as the day goes on," Mr Hogben said.
