Lifting indigenous health
THE Tweed Valley General Practice Network is to take part in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness and safety training program.
The network, along with other GP Networks across NSW and Australia, is funded by the Federal Government’s Closing the Gap program to implement a new Indigenous Health Practice Incentives Program.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health project officer Corinne Martin said general practices received financial incentives to join this program, sign up patients and provide target levels of care for patients with chronic disease.
“We are extending this training to allied health professionals, including pharmacists and non-government agencies, as they have expressed an interest in learning more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health,” Ms Martin said.
The cultural awareness and safety training program will take place next month.
