Liliana's colourful cake doesn't keep her safe

MASTERCHEF favourite Liliana Battle was sent home in tonight's elimination.

The mum of two was given the boot after cooking in her first ever elimination challenge.

As the losers of last night's Seven Deadly Sins challenge, Battle, Jules Allen, Lucy Wallrock, Noelene Marchwiki and Samira El Khafir were asked to imagine their lives flashing before their eyes and capture those moments in food.

Battle baked a multi-coloured sponge and buttercream cake, which she traditionally makes for her sons' birthdays.

"I really struggled with it," Battle said.

"Emotionally I was in a place where I couldn't see beyond my family. I just knew I had to make this dish.

"I've got two boys and they're my life. It was a very emotional challenge."

The 42-year-old said it was a relief to go home to her family after three months of filming for the show.

"It's been great being home," she said.

"I feel centred again. I feel like my feet are on the ground."

The stay-at-home mum has plenty of food projects in the works, including a website, cookbook, weekly dishes at a local restaurant and articles for the Western Australian newspaper.

"Food for me is about family and I want to share that with others," she said.

"You go on the show to prove to yourself that you can do it. It (MasterChef) has given me wings.

"After my elimination Matt Preston said to me 'you could have won this, you're this year's Marion (Grasby)'."

Battle believes it's still anyone's game.

"It's 50 percent cooking and 50 percent luck," she said.

"You've got to cook the right dish on the right day."

MasterChef airs Sundays through Thursdays at 7.30pm on Ten.
