Lismore to hold NDIS rally

A RALLY will be held in Lismore next month in support of a National Disability Insurance Scheme.

It will be held at Spinks Park on Thursday, May 10, from 11am until midday, and will be run by the Northern Rivers Social Development Council, Lismore City Council, House With No Steps, Multitask, DAISI and Spinal Cord Injury Australia.

This comes as Opposition Leader Tony Abbott last week gave his support for the scheme, a move which has been welcomed by the chief executive of Ballina-based disability organisation, DAISI.

Dona Graham said bipartisan support for the NDIS was essential.

"I put this up there with the vote for women and the vote for indigenous Australians" she said.

"It is a fundamental social right."
