Little athletes hit the track

THE 2011 Little Athletes season is in full swing, with 250 youngsters participating on a regular basis each Saturday morning at Walter Peat Recreation Reserve.

At present, each member has the added incentive of running their fastest in order to be a part of relay teams to represent the Tweed Seagulls Club at the Regional Relay Championships at Runaway Bay on Sunday, November 6.

The Tweed Centre will be fielding about 20 relay teams to compete in the 4x70m, 4x100m, 4x200m and medley relay events at the upcoming carnival.

Athletes ranging from under-7 to under-17 will be participating against teams representing other Little Athletics centres from Mullumbimby, Beaudesert, Mudgeeraba, Ashmore, Gold Coast, Helensvale and Runaway Bay.

The top three teams in each age group will progress to the state relay finals, to be held in Brisbane on Saturday, December 10.
