Living the dream, why not?

FRESH from a win in the last round of the Queensland State Junior titles, Jaggar Bartholomew will join his legendary father, Rabbit Bartholomew, on a boat trip with sporting and musical legends to the Telos Islands off Sumatra, Indonesia.
And that's after father and son head off to America this week to check out the Hurley Pro at Trestles, California from September 7-18: event number eight on the WSL World Tour.
With only three events remaining to decide this year's world champion for both the men's and women's world titles, Trestles is a pivotal event. Currently, Hawaii's John John Florence is leading the men's from Australian hopeful Matt Wilkinson and Brazil's 2014 world champ Gabriel Medina. The big question is can Kelly Slater - who had his first win in 2.5 years at Teahupoo - launch an unprecedented 12world title assault by winning Trestles, an event he has won six times? The first one was 27 years ago when he had a full head of hair, in 1990. Slater is currently eight on the world rankings.
The women's world title race has been a see-saw battle between Australia's Tyler Wright and California's Courtney Conlogue with former three-time world champ Carissa Moore in third and yet to have a podium finish. Moore is defending champion and at the risk of sounding silly, has more left in the tank to stage a three-way tussle for the number one position.
But let's get back to the story about a boat full of legends heading to the Telos Islands, situated above the famous Mentawai Islands off the Northern Sumatra coastline of Indonesia, well known as a veritable tropical playground of perfect waves.
You may have seen a similar boat trip with Occy a few years ago when he joined musicians and footballers to do a lifestyle documentary in that dreamy Mentawai's Paradise.
The latest legendary boat trip, which will be filmed by Fox Sports, will feature the man who invented the thruster (three-fin) surfboard Simon Anderson, who is joined by 1978 world champion Rabbit Bartholomew and up and coming champion son Jaggar. Also on the trip are former world number two, Luke Egan, former tennis champion Mark Philippoussis and surfer musician Ash Gruwald, and perhaps a couple of more.
Rabbit and son Jaggar will be heading to the Telos to do the documentary straight after the Hurley Pro. Talk about living the dream and why not - should make for interesting viewing. September is at the end of the swell season for Indonesia and I'm sure the boys will get their share.
Meanwhile, the recent Qld junior titles were decided at Duranbah Beach with the combined result from the first round on the Sunshine Coast. Gold Coast boys dominated with Burleigh's rising star Liam O'Brien winning the u/18 title to secure both a booth in the Australian junior titles to be held at Phillip Island in November and a slot in the Quiksilver Trials for Snapper Rocks' World Tour open in March next year.
Snapper's Kai Tandler, with two final runner-up placings, took the Qld State u/16 junior title from fellow Snapper member Jaggar Bartholomew and will both qualify for the national juniors titles at Phillip Island. Sunshine Coast's Zahli Kelly won the u/18 girls state final and a spot in the Roxy Pro trials for 2017 at Snapper Rocks while Snapper's Piper Harrison won the u/16 junior girls title.
