Local engineer takes the reins

TWEED Shire Council's acting flooding and stormwater engineer Ian Dinham will take charge of the Floodplain Management Authorities of NSW.

The organisation comprises 90 government agencies and consultants responsible for managing floodplains and the risks associated with flooding.

Mr Dinham, who has a civil engineering career spanning four decades, has been the authority's executive member – technical for the past eight years and has headed an FMA education program which includes the creation of a university course.

As chairperson, he aims to establish the FMA as a national body, to promote better floodplain management throughout Australia.
