Local event to mark Disability Day

SEVERAL events have been organised across the Tweed for the upcoming International Day of People with a Disability.

Tweed Shire Council aged and disability community worker Maggie Groff said it is important to recognise the achievements and contributions of people with disabilities.

December 2: Sailability on Tweed will hold a Come and Try Day for people with disabilities at the boat ramp, Dry Dock Road, Tweed Heads South. There will also be a free barbecue.

People with all types of disabilities, even those with restricted mobility, are welcome.

December 3: Tweed Shire Vacation Care, Heffron Street, Tweed Heads South, invites the families, friends and service providers of children with special needs who attend the centre to a Games Circuit with activities and afternoon tea.

December 13: there will be a free hands-on day for anyone with a disability who wants to surf.

Participants should meet at 10am at the park next to Cudgen Headland Surf Lifesaving Club in Kingscliff with their swimmers and sunscreen.
