Locals speak out after Kingscliff kids approached
TWO children approached within two days of each other by what could be the same man is the latest dodgy incident on Boomerang St, Kingscliff.
Tweed Neighbourhood Watch coordinator Gordon Levenson said the incidents were a concern.
"The public has got to be more vigilant," Mr Levenson said.
"Those people that prey on children, we need them off the street."
He recommended taking a photo when possible and getting a detailed description, including registration.
About 9.45am on Saturday, a nine-year-old boy was riding his bike along the street when a male driver of a white van stopped and tried to speak to him.
The boy rode away until he reached a friend's house.
The police were told the van had black and yellow registration plates and a red bull sticker on the rear window.
The man was described as being aged 40 to 50, with grey hair and a grey beard.
About 9.20am Thursday, a 16-year-old girl was followed and offered a lift by a similarly described man.
Kristie Bloomfield, who works at a nearby hairdresser, said it's frightening to know that children were being approached in Kingscliff.
"It's terrifying to think that there would be people, especially in such a tight knit community, that would be like that," she said.
Another local said she was horrified to hear of the incidents.
"Something needs to be done about it," she said.
It's not the first time Boomerang St has been in the spotlight for child safety.
Two months ago, police were alerted to a man exposing himself on the same street, which has an entrance into a primary school.
