Lotto winners found

TWO Tweed retirees have become instant millionaires, taking home a whopping $2.5 million thanks to a Lotto ticket they purchased at Coolangatta Newsagency.

The man and his wife won a first division prize in last Saturday's $20 million Gold Lotto draw, with seven other winners also taking a slice of the major prize.

Newsagency owner Michael Hammond said the pair remained calm when they were told they were multi-millionaires.

“He came in (to the store) with his wife,” Mr Hammond said.

“They are retirees who live in Tweed, but they come in regularly.

“He picked the numbers himself on a card.

“He was pretty calm about it all. I would have been jumping for joy if it was me.”

Mr Hammond, who runs the business with his wife Janet and daugh- ter Melanie, said the family was hoping a local would take home the cash.

He said the Tweed couple did not say what they planned to do with their newfound fortune, but they later came back to the newsagency with a chocolate cake baked espec- ially for the staff.

“It was very nice,” he said.
