Love is in the air at Babalou

IF you’re looking for an easy way to get the romantic juices flowing on Valentine’s Day, let the chefs at Babalou do the hard work while you sit back and enjoy their Romeo and Juliet aphrodisiac menu – his and hers style.

The chefs at the trendy Kingscliff lounge bar have designed a special menu using 36 ingredients from around the globe famous for their aphrodisiac qualities.

Head chef Eddie Uzan has made a career of researching food and has now turned his attention to those that bring a little love the table.

“I am constantly inspired by the rich properties that food offers,” Mr Uzan said.

Mr Uzan is of French descent, adding a taste of the city of love to the “his and hers” menu.

The menu will include passionfruit emulsion oysters, coffee-crusted New York-style steak, the fish of the day as well as a host of other “loved-up” ingredients such as pine nuts, chocolate, almonds and saffron.

“Saffron is an exquisite spice that is rich in colour and has been used throughout the ages to inspire a euphoric feeling,” Mr Uzan said.

The restaurant will be decked out in Valentine’s Day style, complete with a reservation only two-seater Veuve Clicquot loveseat by New York designer Karim Rashid and drop windows looking over to Cook Island at Fingal.

Guests can also enjoy 20 local and imported wines available by the glass, and a vinyl record library for those looking for something a little retro.

Lovers can reserve a “bathing box booth” for a more private meal.

Babalou is open daily from 7am till late.
