Love it or hate it: Options for Valentine’s Day in Tweed

VALENTINE'S Day is nearly upon us and there's no sign of the tradition fading as restaurant bookings are booming around the Tweed.

Babalou at Kingsliff is offering a two-course dinner and entertainment by musician Andrew Redford.

Functions coordinator Jodi Origlasso said they often welcomed couples who had wed at the venue.

"We have two couples who held their wedding reception at Babalou and are returning to enjoy the atmosphere again on Valentine 's Day which we are very excited about," Ms Origlasso said.

Andrew Aggebrink-Jones, manager of Fins restaurant at Salt, said they were offering a four or six-course degustation matched with wine.

"We expect most people will go for that option on Valentine's night and we'll be opening up some special champagnes and making sure it's a pretty special night."

"Our award winning chef Snowy (Stephen Snow) will be cooking on the night and you pretty much can't go wrong with some lovely fresh oysters and a great bottle of champagne".

He is keeping quiet whether there are any special requests or arrangements by their guests for Friday night, but he did have a great story to tell about a couple who didn't believe in rings and used shoes instead. "They used a fabulous pair of shoes in a lovely bag that had to be hidden near the couple's table so that at the right moment, the shoes could be produced and to a pretty sensational effect."

Other options include a ukelele night playing at Tumbulgum Tavern by Miss Amber and Stukelele with special guest Renee Searles.

Mavis's Kitchen, at the foot of Mt Warning, will be setting the scene too with a special menu and pianist.

Restaurant owner Peter Clarke said previously they had arranged tables under trees for a more intimate feel.

"Last year a couple flew in on a helicopter and had a beautiful proposal on the balcony. They then got married here this year."

Murwillumbah's Greenhills on Tweed owner David Hillis said they had a couple coming from Townsville this year to reminsce as they married there years ago.
