Low down on GM sacking will be behind closed doors

ANYONE hoping to get the low-down on the sacking of Tweed Shire Council's general manager will be disappointed.

My Daily News reported that last night's general meeting would reveal the reasons behind termination of the GM's contract.

However, there will be a confidential meeting of councillors as advised by the Division of Local Government.

Following an investigation into the mayor Barry Longland's recommendation to terminate the contract, the division recommended in its report that he meet with his fellow councillors in private to explain his "reasons for making that recommendation."

Cr Longland said he would answer councillors' questions, but that it would not go public.

"I want to be sure all councillors are present," he said.

"It's important that we do that so those councillors who claim they knew nothing get a briefing."

The confidential meeting is yet to happen.

"We need to set a time when all councillors are available," Cr Longland said.
