Lucky escape from broken boat

A MAN and woman had a lucky escape after their boat broke down off Lovers Rock at Yamba overnight.

The man called police, Surf Lifesaving and Marine Rescue before 6pm, saying he was unable to restart the 5.5mt half cabin vessel’s motor and was being washed towards rocks.

Police and Surf Lifesavers headed to the location and were able spot the vessel and used mobile phones to talk with the man.

Surf Lifesaving Clarence Duty Officer Peter Sweetman said conditions at the time were moderately calm.

The boat was towed by Marine Rescue back to Iluka boat ramp without incident.
