Lunch served up for battalion

LION Bill Grose, Kevin and Margaret Roach representing “Lunch With Friends” and president Jan Wilding of the Lions Club of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads recently provided lunch for 900 members of the Seventh Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment.

The huge response of 900 attendees, led the club to approach local group “Lunch With Friends” that provide meals for the homeless and help was readily given.

The group was rewarded with a donation of $4000 to assist in their work.

The occasion was a three-day reunion to celebrate the Battalion's 44th birthday.

The 7th RAR was formed at Puckapunyal in 1965 and had two tours of duty in South Vietnam and is now serving with distinction in Afghanistan.

A memorial service was held prior to lunch being served.
