Major changes to Pacific Hwy
SOUTHBOUND motorists will be able to access the Pacific Hwy just north of the Barneys Point Bridge from a new on-ramp from June 30.
The right turn from Terranora Rd onto Sexton Hill Dr will permanently reopen from the same date.
Cars will be able to follow Sexton Hill Dr south, pass under the Pacific Hwy and enter the highway from the new on-ramp.
It will no longer be necessary for cars to travel north into Tweed Heads South and use the roundabout to access the southbound on-ramp there.
Currently motorists can only access Terranora Rd from the north via Darlington Dr and Laura St.
From Monday, July 9, it will be possible to turn left from Darlington Dr and travel south along Sexton Hill Dr to Terranora Rd and further to the new Pacific Hwy southbound on-ramp as necessary.
The Laura St Bridge will be temporarily closed westbound during this time for four weeks.
The same bridge will become important for those heading to East Banora from Tweed Heads South, West Banora or the Pacific Hwy southbound.
Motorists will need to use the new left turn onto Sexton Hill Dr from Darlington Dr and cross the Laura St Bridge eastbound.
This is because the temporary eastern link road between Darlington Dr and Laura St will be closed to southbound traffic.
Those accessing East Banora from Terranora Rd or the Pacific Hwy heading north will need to follow Sexton Hill Dr and turn around at the northern interchange roundabout at Minjungbal Dr.
They will then need to follow Sexton Hill Dr south from the Darlington Dr underpass and make a left turn into East Banora across the Laura St Bridge.
Drivers wishing to leave East Banora will still be able to use the temporary eastern link road northbound for four weeks.
