Make that special gift for mum
SURE, you could buy her that perfume or gift card you always do for Mother's Day this year.
No-one would think any less of you - except perhaps mum as she humours you with kisses and thanks.
Maybe as a child when mum was a god-like figure you made her something and laid it at her feet as an offering in return for her continued benevolence.
If your mum needs a little something extra this Mother's Day, whether that is due to your neglect or not, attend Creative Wink's Mother's Day Gift Pack workshop.
Wink's Melanie Brockwell said the Kirra Hill Cultural and Community centre session would produce works of jewellery, fabric, paper and candles.
"This is not just the macaroni necklace," Ms Brockwell said.
The local artist continues an artistic tradition passed from her grandmother to her mother, who lives in north-west Queensland and does not have a phone.
"We write to each other and make each other things and send them off.
"So does my grandmother as well - it runs in the family.
"I'll probably send mum something she wouldn't buy herself; some expensive fabric or something."
The workshop is timed for Mother's Day but workshoppers can produce a gift for anyone including themselves.
Or they can simply attend out of a need to creatively express themselves.
"It will be a relaxed day of creativity and pampering in preparation for Mother's Day," Ms Brockwell said.
"Come along yourself, send your mum or make your aunty three luxury products at this spectacular location on the cliffs at Kirra.
"There will be a light lunch provided to sustain us as we indulge ourselves creating a Mother's Day gift pack for someone we love.
"There will be presents so don't miss this opportunity to do something special this year."
The centre is the 1 Garrick St building behind the Kirra Eagle.
The session will run from noon-3pm on May 5 and cost $70 per person.
Ms Brockwell said "all natural, organic, sustainable, recycled and otherwise eco-friendly workshops" were her specialty.
