First look at Mamma Mia sequel

MAMMA Mia! fans rejoice. Filming has wrapped on the sequel of the 2008 movie musical, and a behind-the-scenes sneak peek of the new film has dropped on social media. The Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again video was posted by the film's official Twitter account on Thursday along with the caption "It's a wrap!".

The fun clip features appearances by the stars of the original film, including Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper, along with new cast members such as Lily James (Disney's Cinderella), who plays a young Donna.

They are shown goofing around, learning song and dance numbers, and filming on set. The one-minute long video also includes social media posts by the cast and crew.

The first trailer for the film will be released on Thursday in America, but in the meantime, actress Amanda Seyfriend gave fans a glimpse of the movie's poster on her Instagram account.

The first film, based on the hit Broadway musical of the same name, tells the story of bride-to-be Sophie (Seyfried), who tries to find her real father by inviting three men from her mother's past (played by Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, and Stellan Skarsgard) to her wedding. The film is set on the Greek islands and features hit songs by Swedish pop group ABBA. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again will include more ABBA music and will focus on the backstory of Sophie's mother Donna (Streep).

Of the sequel, ABBA member Benny Andersson told BBC program The One Show: "It's more of a prequel really, because it's about everything that happened before they ended up on Kalokairi island," he said.

"It's Donna when she was young - Meryl Streep when she was young - and what happened when she met the three dads."

Seyfried told EW she was excited to learn more about Donna's character.

"She's effervescent and inspired and amazing and has such a spirit. Meryl brought such light to this character and then you see Lily playing Donna, and it's seamless," she said.

"The movie's better than the original because there's a depth to it that only comes from time."

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is slated for release July, 2018.
