Man, 64, takes on home invader
A 64-YEAR-OLD man wrestled an intruder to the ground during a violent home invasion at a Tweed Heads South home yesterday afternoon.
About 12.30pm the intruder – thought to be between 25-30 years of age – threatened the man with an axe-handle and demanded money.
The victim was able to wrestle the intruder to the door and out into the backyard, where he called to his neighbours for help.
The assailant, also believed to be in possession of a stun-gun, fled the property empty-handed.
He was last seen driving south along Faulkner St, possibly towards Cunningham St, Tweed Heads South.

Tweed police Inspector Darren Steel said the 64-year-old man was visibly shaken, but uninjured.
The intruder was described as being of Caucasian appearance, 25-30 years old with a solid build.
He was last seen wearing black tracksuit pants, a black hooded top, a black baseball cap with a black and red bandana and sunglasses.
Insp Steel said it was believed the man may have been driving a Queensland-registered Hyundai hatchback, possibly an i20 or i30 model.
He urged anyone with information to come forward.
