Suspect arrested in decapitated dog case

UPDATE: A man accused of torturing and killing a family dog during a domestic dispute near Newcastle has been arrested.

Police discovered a dog decapitated in the yard of a home at Lemon Tree Passage late Wednesday.

An alert was issued amid fears the alleged culprit may have been on the run and armed with a knife.

The 28-year-old was found in bushland on Thursday morning.

He was charged with commit an act of aggravated animal cruelty - torture, beat and cause death of animal - and stalk/intimidate with intent to cause fear of physical harm.

A three-month-old staffordshire bull terrier was killed at a home at Lemon Tree Passage on Wednesday during an argument between a man and the dog's owner.

Police believe the man may still be armed with a knife.

He is described as being about 185cms tall with a medium build and fair complexion.
