Fraser Coast man accused of sexually abusing daughter

A FATHER has been accused of sexually assaulting his own daughter in the Maryborough Hospital and two other sites in the region, the Hervey Bay District Court heard yesterday.

The man, who the Chronicle has chosen not to name in order to protect the alleged victim, pleaded not guilty to eight charges including rape, indecent treatment of a child under 12 and maintaining a sexual relationship with a child.

Crown prosecutor Matt LeGrand said the alleged incidents occurred between 1998 and 2004 when the girl was aged between six and 13.

"She was admitted to the Maryborough Hospital after her finger was caught in the door," Mr LeGrand said.

The court heard the girl was in hospital for two nights after the injury, and on both nights the man allegedly inappropriately touched her while she was trying to sleep.

The man is also accused of inappropriately touching her in her Hervey Bay bedroom, exposing himself to her in a Maryborough park and digitally raping her when she was 13.

The jury of eight women and four men was told the girl did not report the alleged assault until August last year.

The defence will present its case to the jury later this week.

The trial continues today.
