Man accused of Toowoomba siege held in custody

A MAN accused of holding police at bay during a tense siege at the Department of Communities' Child Safety Service Centre in Toowoomba on Friday has had his matters mentioned before the city's Magistrates Court.

Graham David Warry, 41, spent the weekend in Toowoomba Hospital being mentally assessed before being brought back to the police watch house on Sunday afternoon.

His solicitor David Burns told the court he didn't require his client to be brought into court and asked that the case be adjourned over to Tuesday.

A number of Warry's family were in court to hear Acting Magistrate Roger Stark adjourn the six charges against the defendant.

There being no application for bail, Warry was remanded in custody.

Police claim Warry doused himself in petrol when he attended the offices of Child Safety about 2pm Friday.

Staff was evacuated from the building as police negotiators moved in.

Warry had been taken from the building about 2.50pm.
