Vicious daylight robbery leaves shopkeeper bloody

A SHOPKEEPER suffered a bloody head injury after being struck with a bottle in a brazen robbery yesterday afternoon at the Goonellabah Liquorland store.

Three teenagers were involved in the alleged robbery, according to a witness who saw from across the shopping centre car park people matching the description of the alleged attackers fleeing the scene.

The witness, who did not want to be named, is a Goonellabah resident and frequent visitor to the shopping centre.

She said she is on a first-name basis with the bottle-shop attendant and was shocked that he was the victim of a violent attack.

"There was blood outside the bottleshop and he was holding a big pad on his head," she said.

The witness said the teenagers made no attempt to hide their identities as they fled.

The injured man was treated at the scene by ambulance crews.

He was believed to be in a stable condition yesterday afternoon.

The witness said she had provided police with descriptions of the alleged attackers.

The alleged thieves are understood to have escaped with at least four bottles of alcohol including rum, bourbon and vodka.

The Liquorland outlet was temporarily closed in the wake of the incident.

Anyone with information on the incident should phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
