Man jailed for kidnapping

A MAN accused of attacking and then kidnapping his girlfriend has been charged by police.

Tweed-Byron police said the 31-year-old man allegedly punched and kicked his 24-year-old girlfriend before tying her up with a rope and driving her to Surfers Paradise.

He was arrested after Queensland police stopped his car and was charged with offences committed in Queensland.

He was sentenced to three months prison today in the Southport Magistrates Court and NSW authorities say he will be extradited once his sentence is complete.

Tweed-Byron Local Area Command crime manager Inspector Shane Diehm said the case was an example of cooperation between the NSW and Queensland police forces.

“This arrest and follow-up investigation is an example of the NSW and Queensland Police working together,” he said.

“Once the alleged offender is dealt with in Queensland he will face serious charges in New South Wales.”
