Suburb in lockdown as police hunt for murder clues

UPDATE: Police and State Emergency Service volunteers are searching for clues in the street where a woman was fatally stabbed overnight.

Terrified residents who live in Seppelt St told The Chronicle they often heard arguments coming from the area in which a 29-year-old woman was found by police.

Toowoomba man John Henry Brown, 30, was this morning charged with the woman's murder.

One resident, who moved to the street earlier this year, said she was unsure of which house arguments were heard, but they often happened after 10pm.

"I have heard disturbances in the past coming from the area," she said, indicating towards the crime scene.

"I'm worried a little bit.

"Everyone keeps to themselves.

"I still don't know everybody."

Another resident said police were occasionally seen in the street after hearing arguments and disturbances.

11AM: A Toowoomba man accused of the fatal stabbing of a 29-year-old woman overnight was excused from  appearing in Toowoomba Magistrates Court this morning.

John Henry Brown, 30, has been charged with one count of murder. Defence solicitor Brad Skuse appeared on Brown's behalf.

The case was adjourned until September 6 for committal mention.

No application for bail was sought.

7AM: Police have charged a Toowoomba man with murder after a woman died from a stab wound last night.

Police were called to a residence at Seppelt Street about 9.50pm where a 29-year-old woman allegedly suffered a stab wound to her torso.

She died a short time later in hospital.

A 30-year-old Toowoomba man has been charged with one count of murder and is due to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court this morning.

A police spokeswoman said the knife allegedly used in the incident was found by responding officers at the scene.

Officers spoke with neighbouring witnesses in the street.

"Police did a door knock of the area and witnesses have given police a suspect," the spokeswoman said.

"Police patrolled and located the man in and around the area."
