Bail for sexual assault accused

A TWEED Heads man has been granted bail after he was charged with the aggravated sexual assault of a cognitively impaired woman on Monday.

The 20-year-old woman told Tweed police she was walking in Phillips Lne, Tweed Heads on Monday.

She said she was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her before she was able to break free.

A 23-year-old man was later arrested when a search warrant was executed at a local home.

Police also seized several items from the home for forensic examination.

The man has been granted strict conditional bail and will appear in Tweed Heads Local Court on July 11.

Tweed police would like to speak to a woman with whom the victim spoke in Phillips Lane moments after the alleged assault.

Police are appealing for the woman, or anyone who knows her identity or whereabouts to contact them via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
