A WOMAN found safe this morning after beng lost in bushland near Pomona had been attempting to get home through a forest after her car was hit by rising floodwaters.

The local woman, aged in her 50s, was returning from grocery shopping late Monday afternoon when she realised her car was at risk from rising waters.

She left it and decided to walk home through the Yurol Forest.

The Kidd Road woman told a swiftwater rescue team that a tree had fallen across the path, which forced her to take an alternative route.

She then became disoriented and spent 16 hours in the leech-ridden area in the heavy rain.

The woman spent the night sitting on a tree stump, under an umbrella.

Queensland Fire and Rescue swift water rescue experts Paul Clark and Bruce Shelton told media that the woman was very relieved to make it out safe and well.

She had been upset and cold but was relatively unscathed by her overnight drama.

The rescue team said it was rough terrain, with swollen creeks and leeches everywhere.

Woman made right choice not to drive into flooded water

Local Disaster Coordination Centre Police Liaison Officer Senior Sergeant Peter Grace said the Pomona local made right the choice not to drive into flooded roads.

Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Coordinator Alan Rogers said there was big rainfall totals in the last 24 hours.

"Lake McDonald received 259mm, Cooloolabin dam 245mm, Cooroy and Pomona 219mm, Moy Pocket 220mm and Mt Tinbeerwah 219mm," Mr Rogers said.

"The rain slowed overnight and at first light council crews were out and about updating road closures and checking for pot hole damage.

"There's a number of pot holes and scouring on the road so we are asking motorists to take extra care over the next few days.

"The Local Disaster Coordination Centre will continue to monitor river levels and council crews will be out checking the impact of localised flooding and monitoring road conditions.

"The Bureau of Meteorology severe weather warning remains current as bands of heavy rain are likely to impact the hinterland throughout the rest of the day.

"Most of the regions' rivers and creeks have peaked and are progressively falling despite heavy but short lived showers.

Woman missing near Pomona found safe and well

The woman went missing after she left her car just 2km from her home to trek on foot after she came across floodwater.

A search last night failed to find the woman and a rescue chopper was called in when the search resumed this morning.

The woman told rescuers she saw the helicopter and tried to signal it before making her way onto the Porters Rd, where she met swift water rescue officers.

The woman went missing late yesterday afternoon when she left her car with water lapping at her feet on Porters Rd, and attempted to walk home.

Last night a Department of Community Safety spokeswoman said the missing woman, 49, rang her husband when she realised she was lost and he raised the alarm.

The woman was liaising with police on her mobile but her battery was believed to be running low.

Police, SES and the Swift Water Rescue Team from Queensland Fire and Rescue Service were called in to aid in the search but they eventually lost contact with her.

Yesterday a 77-year-old man drowned after his car was swept off the road At Kilcoy, northwest of Caboolture. The man died after his car was swept off Mary Smokes Creek Rd into floodwaters about 4pm.
