Man fights off home invader

BREAKING NEWS: A 64-year-old man has fought off a violent home invader at Tweed Heads South.

About 12.30pm Tuesday the resident was confronted by a 25-30-year-old man in the kitchen of his Faulkner St house.

The man threatened him with an axe-handle and demanded money.

The victim was able to wrestle the intruder to the door and out into the back yard, where he called to his neighbours for help.

The intruder, also believed to be in possession of a stun-gun, fled the property empty handed.

He was last seen driving south along Faulkner St, possibly towards Cunningham St in Tweed Heads South.

Tweed police Inspector Darren Steel said the resident was visibly shaken, but uninjured.

The intruder has been described as being of Caucasian appearance, 25-30 years old with a solid build.

He was last seen wearing black tracksuit pants, a black hooded top, a black baseball cap with a black and red bandana and sunglasses.

Insp Steel said it was believed the man may have been driving a Queensland registered Hyundai hatchback, possibly an i20 or i30 model.

He urged anyone with information to come forward.
