Man gets 12 months’ jail over assault of police, bistro boss
A 43-YEAR-old man has been sentenced to 12 months' prison for assaulting a Tweed police officer and a Sydney bistro manager and repeatedly carrying weapons in public.
On July 13 police were called to Rivers clothing store on Wharf St where Michael Hunter Ressell was threatening members of the public with a wine bottle.
Police then discovered there were outstanding warrants for Ressell in relation to a Sydney matter.
When Ressell was taken to the police station, he threatened to assault police and then started to throw punches, narrowly missing Constable Bruce Jones' head.
Ressell was also found guilty of attacking a Sydney bistro and bar manager on October 4, 2013.
Upon his arrest, Ressell had seven different styles of knife on his person.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possessing a knife in a public place, and possessing an offensive implement in public.
For the July 13 matters, he was found guilty of two counts of possessing a prohibited item, for having an extendable baton and slingshot, assaulting an officer and possessing a prohibited drug.
