Man hospitalised after Tweed Heads home invasion

POLICE are appealing for information following a home invasion in Tweed Heads overnight which left a man hospitalised with serious head injuries.

At about 7.40pm on Tuesday, emergency services were called to Seymour St following concerns for a man found injured near a unit block.

Tweed-Byron Local Area Command Police Inspector Bobbie Cullen said the victim was in the garage when he was attacked and lost consciousness.

"Offenders have broken into the garage and assaulted him and when he awoke he went and sought help and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with serious head injuries,” Insp Cullen said.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman confirmed paramedics attended the scene, following reports of a man being assaulted.

"We had a male patient aged in his 40s for a facial and head injury, also lower back and chest pains and he was taken to hospital by road ambulance,” the spokesman said.

A crime scene was established by detectives at Seymour St to collect forensic evidence.

Investigators would now like to speak to two men who they believe may be able to assist with their investigations.

Anyone who heard or saw anything unusual in the area between 6pm and 7pm yesterday is also urged to report to police.

Phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
