Man in coma after assault

A MAN was taken to the Tweed Hospital with a fractured skull after allegedly being assaulted at Ocean Shores on Wednesday.

A statement released by police said the assault took place after 3pm.

“A 52-year-old man entered a hotel in Billinudgel and told the publican he had been assaulted by another man, armed with a baseball bat,” police said.

“The publican drove the man to his home in Ocean Shores where, upon arrival, the alleged victim suffered a seizure and lost consciousness.

“An ambulance was called and the man, suffering a fractured skull, was taken to the Intensive Care Unit of the Tweed Hospital.”

The man was then transferred to Brisbane's Princess Alexandria Hospital where he remains in an induced coma.

Police from the Tweed Byron Local Area Command were called to the Ocean Shores address.

“Police attended an address in Gilba Avenue, Ocean Shores, where they located the man's car, which had blood smears on it,” the statement said.

“They also found a pool of blood on grass nearby, officers conducted a search and canvas of the neighbourhood.”

Police have placed a guard on the premises pending an ongoing forensic examination.
