Beerwah man killed at party

A 36-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with murder and attempted murder, after a Sunshine Coast man was shot dead on the Gold Coast.

Police said the 46-year-old Beerwah man was reportedly shot in front of his wife and daughter at a residence on Meadowbank Street, Upper Coomera, about 4.45am yesterday after an argument with another man turned violent.

The Beerwah man and his family were at the house during what was described as a house-warming party.

Police alleged a row had broken out between the men in the early hours before the accused went to his home to retrieve a shotgun and then returned to shoot the man in the back.

A second bullet hit another man's clothing but he escaped without serious injury.

Police earlier alleged the shooting occurred after a neighbourhood dispute escalated.

Queensland Ambulance Service officers were called to the scene, but the victim was pronounced dead on arrival.

The 36 year old will be held in custody to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
