Man mauled by pitbulls while walking his dog

SURGEONS are working to save a man's ear after it was bitten off during a savage dog attack in NSW this afternoon.

The 19-year-old was mauled by two pitbull terriers as he tried to protect his own dog during a walk through Sydney's south-western suburbs.

When he fell to the ground, his left ear was bitten off.

Nearby residents came to the man's aid and the dogs fled.

Paramedics found the man's ear and surgeons will try to reattach it at the Liverpool Hospital.

The pitbulls have been captured and their owner is in talks with the Bankstown Council.
