Man missing in surf at Burleigh Heads

A SEARCH will resume in the morning for a man believed missing after jumping into the surf from rocks at Burleigh Headland this afternoon.

Around 2 the man was seen to get into difficulties in the surf and disappeared under a wave. A search conducted during the afternoon failed to locate any sign of him.

The search was suspended just before 5pm due to failing light and heavy surf conditions.

Police have not received any missing person reports and a search of the shoreline has failed to locate any abandoned personal items.

The man is described as being in his 20s and was wearing board shorts.

Searches will be conducted along the beach throughout the evening.

Gold Coast Water Police will coordinate the search when it resumes at first light.
