Man on sexual assault charge

A MURWILLUMBAH man was charged with sexual assault after a woman was assaulted yesterday morning.

Tweed Police Inspector Bill Darnell said the assault occurred about 1am.

“A 43-year-old male from Murwillumbah has been charged with aggravated sexual assault upon a 47-year-old female from Murwillumbah,” Insp Darnell said.

“He has been bail-refused to appear before the court.”

Insp Darnell said the victim was receiving treatment at the Murwillumbah hospital.

“The male and female previously shared a relationship, although that relationship had ceased two years ago,” he said.
