Man hunted in Mooloolaba after bub taken from mum

A MANHUNT was launched last night for a man who allegedly bashed a woman at Mooloolaba and abducted her baby.

Police Media said late last night the man and the baby had been found after the search.

The spokeswoman said the baby was safe and well.

The man had allegedly told the woman he was prepared to kill the child if he was not able to have custody.

Police were last night investigating a tip-off that the man had arranged to be picked up by his mother and uncle. They were told the man did not intend to harm the child.

Police cars converged upon Yallanga Place shortly after 6pm after reports that the man had run off with the eight-month-old child.

It is believed that police and Department of Child Safety officers had visited the address earlier.

Police had contacted the man's associates. Officers also searched the beach, where the man was said to have taken the child in the past.

The man was in custody last night, Police Media said.
