Man robs pub with machete

POLICE are on the hunt for a machete-wielding bandit who tied up two people before robbing a Mooball hotel.

The Victory Hotel's male licensee and a woman were in the bar area of the closed hotel about 8.45pm on Anzac Day when the armed robbery took place.

A man wearing black clothing smashed the window to a side door with a machete and entered the hotel, a NSW Police media spokes- woman said.

He threatened the licensee and woman with the machete before taking money from various cash registers.

The man then ordered the couple upstairs to the main office, demanding money from the safe and the licensee's car keys.

He tied the man and woman to a railing and left the hotel in the stolen gold Nissan Maxima.

No one was injured.

Kingscliff Police located the stolen car a short time later being driven on Tweed Coast Rd at Hastings Point.

Police saw the car stop before two men ran from it.

They searched the area without success.

A sum of money was located inside the car and it has been towed to a holding yard for forensic examination.

Police established a crime scene at the hotel.

Anyone with information that might be able to assist investigators is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
