Man stalked ex before murders: inquiry

A FATHER of two stalked his ex-girlfriend before he murdered her and their five-year-old child near Casino.

Paul Rogers also murdered his ex-girlfriend's new partner in a Gold Coast apartment.

Chilling evidence has surfaced during the coronial inquest into the triple murder-suicide of Rogers, his five-year-old daughter Kyla Rogers, her mother and Rogers's ex-girlfriend Tania Simpson and her partner Antony Way.

Rogers killed Ms Simpson and Mr Way in a Robina apartment on May 15, 2011, before snatching Kyla from her bed, driving to a remote spot on the Bruxner Highway west of Casino and gassing himself and Kyla.

Ms Simpson's father, John Simpson, told the coronial inquest at Southport today  that Rogers had stalked his daughter prior to the murders.

Ms Simpson and Rogers had an arrangement where Rogers would see their two children, each Saturday.

Mr Simpson said Ms Simpson would be stressed, feel sick and even vomit before Rogers came to pick the kids up.

"But she never thought he would do anything to the kids," Mr Simpson said.

"He was only using the kids for an inroad."

Ms Simpson and Rogers were engaged but Ms Simpson called off the wedding in October, 2010, when they were living and managing a caravan park at Inverell.

Mr Simpson and his wife, Julie Simpson, lived in Inverall also.

Mr Simpson said Rogers took to cutting himself after the break-up.

In May 2011, Ms Simpson purchased the management rights to a unit complex in Robina with good security.

The family made an effort to keep the address of Ms Simpson's new home from Rogers.

A friend of Rogers's is scheduled to give evidence this afternoon.
