Market crafted for success

THE success of a unique market in Murwillumbah has organisers talking about making it a bi-annual event.

Artisan Handcrafted Christmas Market organiser Ellie Beck said she was nervous about the inaugural market at Tweed River Art Gallery but was delighted when more than 600 people walked through the door

"It was fantastic. We had people waiting at the gallery before the doors opened," Ms Beck said.

Ms Beck said all sellers at the market offered handcrafted products made in the region and it was a hit with visitors.

"I think this is one-of-a-kind market for the area. I wanted to see if there was a community down here that supported the local artisans," she said.

Candlemaker Karen Commerford owns Lotus Flower and launched her handmade soy-wax candles at the market.

"It was fabulous and it was busy all day," Ms Commerford said.

Ms Beck said they had a lot of inquiries from people wanting to sell products at the markets and some missed out.
