Matildas all ready for Brazil in women’s World Cup

AUSTRALIA will have to overcome Brazil's big three - Marta, Cristiane and Formiga - to make the quarter-finals at another women's World Cup.

The teams will clash in Moncton this morning, and Matildas midfielder Elise Kellond-Knight said after surviving the 'Group of Death' to reach the knockout stage, the team was confident of making it to the final eight.

"We've faced three really tough opponents in the group stage and have come out looking better from it," Kellond-Knight said.

"And we're building in confidence. I think that's the main thing that we've developed over the past five months and our three games so far in this tournament."

The Aussies finished their three group games with a win, a draw and a loss, while Brazil won all three of its matches.

Lisa De Vanna has been the star for the Matildas, scoring against the USA and Sweden in her third World Cup.

"There's the possibility of throwing one or two fresh players in just to freshen the team up because we've played three tough games," he said.

A victory for Australia would see the team return to Edmonton to take on the winner of the match between Japan and the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, world No.1 Germany and China both won through to the quarter-finals.

The Germans beat Sweden 4-1, while China edged out Cameroon 1-0 to end the fairytale run for the Cup debutants.
