NATIONALS candidate for the seat of Richmond Matthew Fraser said last night's budget would bring more debt, deficits, taxes and broken promises.

"For families living in Murwillumbah, Byron Bay and beyond, this budget does nothing to help deal with cost of living pressures, education costs and economic uncertainty," he said.

"Labor has again broken its word to the people of Richmond by scrapping tax cuts, family payments and affecting young mums from Lennox Head through to Tweed Heads who will not receive the promised additional family tax benefits payment."

He said the budget mean fewer jobs and slower economic growth.

"As a small business owner, I am aware of the current challenges faced by our youth in the Tweed in finding jobs which the budget predicted to worsen," he said.

Mr Fraser said key areas of concern in the Budget were:

• At least a $4.7 billion blowout in the management of Australia's borders since last year's Budget;
• $49 million new borrowings every single day, which our children and grand children will have to pay for in the future to come
• more than $25 billion in higher taxes over the next four years impacting on all tax payers.
• He said families and businesses had to live within their means, but the Labor government did not.

Mr Fraser said over the past five years, the Gillard government has spent $191 billion more than it has raised.

"Only the Coalition has the plan, experience and discipline to return the budget to sustainable surpluses, reduce debt and provide real support to Australian families to help them get ahead again."
