Matthew Fraser announces tilt for Richmond at Nats meet
NATIONAL Party members and political leaders met at the Condong Bowling Club on Tuesday night to discuss local, state and federal issues with Tweed residents.
The dinner and fundraiser was hosted by Matthew Fraser, who is set to a launch a fresh campaign in 2016 for the seat of Richmond in the House of Representatives.
Tweed Shire Councillors Phil Youngblutt, Warren Polglase, Carolyn Byrne, Member for Tweed Geoff Provest, Member for Lismore Thomas George (whose electorate covers Murwillumbah) and the Assistant Federal Minister for Health Fiona Nash were present.
Residents fired questions at the political leaders on water resources, Right to Farm legislation, the Whistle Blowers Act and the closure of the Murwillumbah Hospital children's ward.
At least 70 attended the evening, with local identities including 90-year-old doctor Betty Marks, who has served the Murwillumbah community for over 40 years, Solo Recovery's Idwall Richards and "Mr Murwillumbah" Phil Taylor, of Taylor's corner, Murwillumbah.
