Matthew Fraser blames Justine Elliot for terrorist refugee
RICHMOND candidate Matthew Fraser has slammed MP Justine Elliot over a convicted terrorist he said has "slipped under the radar of ASIO, the AFP and Customs" on her watch.
"This will send a chill up the spines of people in Richmond," he said.
"The knowledge that Labor's funding cuts, axing billions from these agencies, is breathtaking at a time of overwhelming asylum seeker numbers.
"Record numbers of illegal immigrants are arriving by the day and our border protection services are over-stretched and under-funded."
Mrs Elliot said he was "attacking the fine men and women of ASIO, the police and other security services who work tirelessly in the interests of our safety."
"Matthew Fraser has shown he is not fit to be a candidate in this year's Federal Election," she said.
"Tackling the serious crime of people smuggling requires a regional solution, a solution which the Liberal National Party refuses to support.
Only our full suite of measures will stop the human trafficking and shut the floodgates on people smugglers.
"As a former police officer I know that when it comes to locals and the issues that directly impact their security, it is the lack of police numbers in Tweed that is the real threat."
Mr Fraser claims there has been over 42,000 arrivals under the Labor/Greens government, which he called "dysfunctional."
"This is more than the population of towns like Murwillumbah and Byron Bay," he said.
"The breakdown of our border protections has not only cost the Australian public billions of dollars but has also put Australians at greater risk and unacceptable risk.
"Labor MP Justine Elliot, who continues to concoct her exposed CSG fraud fails to take action on border protection issues."
Mr Fraser said only the Coalition had a plan to stop the boats.
"We have a proven record when it comes to implementing offshore processing, Temporary Protection Visas and turning the boats around when safe to do so," he said.
"Only our full suite of measures will stop the human trafficking and shut the floodgates on people smugglers.
"Right now it's a free-for-all."
Mrs Elliot said if Mr Fraser was serious about security he would "publically call on his mate, Geoff Provest to fix the problem and deliver the 59 extra police that Mr Provest himself promised but never delivered."
But Mr Fraser said his party had a "proven formula for a stronger, more prosperous economy and a safer, more secure Australia."
"Unfortunately, September 14 still seems a very long way away and who knows how much more damage this incompetent government will do between now and then," he said.
