McClymonts hit the road to mark special milestone

GRAFTON sisters, country music superstars the McClymonts, are celebrating a decade of hits with a tour to mark their tenth anniversary.

Since releasing their self-titled debut EP in 2006, Brooke, Sam and Mollie have gone on to amass 19 charting singles, as well as a swag of gold albums and multiple awards and can lay claim to the title of Australia's number one country music group.

The 10-date tour marks a return for the group since their last album, Here's To You & I, was released in 2014.

A lot has happened in that time and Sam McClymont - who has since married and forged a successful media career - said while the sisters' lives had moved into another phase, they couldn't wait to get back on stage.

"I think in the 10 years we've changed, we're not 20 any more, we're married now and Mollie's back after giving birth but we're looking forward to getting back on the road to do some gigs after the time off," she said.

"We write our own music, and it's personal from our own experiences, but we love to have a chat on stage and tell our story.

"That's what we'll be doing this time around and playing songs people want to hear that takes them on a bit of a journey."

That journey will take fans through their extensive catalogue and Sam said there'll be a mix between the group's and fans' favourites.

While Sam lists The Dixie Chicks, The Judds and The Eagles among the group's influences, she feels country music isn't being labelled as such these days, opening their music and sound up to a wider audience.

The tour, which began on Friday in Melbourne, makes its way north to the Twin Towns on Friday, August 26, before wrapping up at the Gympie Muster on the 27th.

"Twin Towns is a beautiful room and it fits a lot (of people) in," Sam said.

"There's a great following up there and we've always found up that way is just so receptive to our music.

"We haven't been there for a few years but we've been meaning to come back, so we're looking forward to it."

The group is working on their next album, which they hope to release in the new year, with plans to keep doing what they love.

"We've been doing it since we were 10, so we've made it this far and we can't imagine doing anything else," Sam said.

"We feel like we've got the best fans, who still buy our albums and support live music, so we feel very lucky.

"In the future we'll still be going and we'll keep doing it (touring) as long as fans keep coming out."
