Medal blitz for Tweed athletes

JUNIOR athletes from the Tweed ended their year with a host of medals and personal best times at the recent state relays in Brisbane.

Tweed Little Athletics had 51 juniors competing in the titles, which were held at QSAC stadium in Brisbane on December 10.

Many athletes won medals, including a gold and silver to the team of Tiani Hogan, Nicola Gee, Lily Van den Driest and Imogen Scott in the under-12 girls high jump.

For the first time high jump was on the program for under-12s, Hogan and Gee set a Queensland record (yet to be ratified) with a combined height of 2.62m.

The under-17 girls 4x100m team of Emily Alman, Phoebe Robson, Jessica Hoy and Mikayla Madden claimed a silver medal, and the under-17s girls long jump team of Phoebe Robson and Jessica Hoy, and the under-11 boys 4x100m team of Jake Giltrap- Good, James Mellor, Cooper Nelson and Kye Worth also netted silvers.

Chloe Palin, Emily Alman, Madison Alman and Mikayla Madden won bronze medals in the under-16s girls medley, and the under-9s girls high jump team of Indianna Crawford and Lucy Grant, and the under-16s boys 4 x100m team of Lachlan Stanford, Jack Dawson, Matthew Kilburn, Kaelin See also took home bronze.

Athletes had the chance to see some of their heroes up close, with Sally Pearson and Cedric Dubler competing in open relays.
