WHAT makes you happy?
It is a question we often forget to ask of ourselves and our loved ones but one man is out to remind us we live in the best place in the world.
Kristian Goodacre has always been a glass-half-full kind of guy.
The 28-year-old has dedicated the past seven years of his career to helping other people realise their potential, as a social worker.
But when he found himself disconnecting from the people most important to him, he decided it was time to unplug from the hum-drum of full-time work and rediscover the relationships he had formed in his life.
"It was work nine-to-five, go home . . . buggered," he said. "I decided to take a self-funded year off and rather than go overseas, I would travel through Australia and revisit all of my friends, family and colleagues and ask them what makes them happy."
Documenting their responses on his iPhone4, Kristian has been filming since October last year and now has 32 videos taken in Tasmania, Victoria and NSW.
He is now working on the Queensland instalment and plans to include some of the "colourful and welcoming" characters he has met since he moved in with his Cotton Tree-based girlfriend Monique Proud in March.
The aim is to end up with 52 episodes, which he will showcase on the Happy Monday video blog website he launched last week.
Kristian will upload the first video interview with his Nan and Pop, who inspired the entire project, at 10am today and will follow suit at the same time each week in a bid to cure "Mondayitis".
From the interviews conducted so far, Kristian said people most commonly listed spending time with loved ones, spending time outdoors and watching sunrises and sunsets as things that make them happy.
"I think on a day-to-day basis we can get caught up in everyday life and this project has brought me a lot of joy but also made people stop and think about how they can look on the bright side of life," he said.
Kristian will travel to the Northern Territory in September for more footage.
