Melnik hat-trick guides United

FOOTBALL: A terrific night with the boot for Tweed United star Emily Melnik has guided her side to another win in the Gold Coast Metro North League.

Melnik was on fire in front of goal on Wednesday night against Canungra at Arkinstall Park, firing three past the keeper in a 7-1 win.

Karis Walker provided the perfect compliment to Melnik, as she put her name on the score sheet twice along with goals from Renee Hunter and Kristy-Ann Parsons.

It was a physical outing for the United girls, who had to work hard during the contest, especially when the heavens opened up in the second half.

United captain Ashteal Kolovos said the win revealed plenty of character in her team, as the conditions on the pitch worsened during the second half.

"At times we could not see the ball, which was only one-foot in front of us,” Kolovos said after the match.

The win maintains Tweed's impressive run of form this season, with coach Mark Griffiths praising his side following the six-goal win.

"It is good to see training transpiring onto the field,” he said.

"I am very happy with all the girls.”

Tweed travel north next Wednesday night when they face Nerang in their round-seven clash.
