Milne calls on Polglase to lift

IN a blistering attack listing his failings, Greens Party councillor Katie Milne has called on Tweed Mayor Warren Polglase to lift his game.

Cr Milne, who earlier this week failed to have Cr Polglase’s pay cut by $20,000, yesterday said he should immediately re-establish a specialist overriding committee reviewing all council actions and guiding the budget – or step down.

The attack sparked a war of words, with Cr Polglase accusing Cr Milne of abusing meeting procedures and suggesting she should pay controversial debts.

They include bills for failed High Court action against last year’s world championship Repco car rally and a $351 debt to the council regarding document searches which were part of her opposition to plans for a Chinderah marina in 2006.

Cr Milne’s attack on the Mayor came as a Tweed Daily News online poll showed 87 per cent of respondents believed councillors should not receive the pay rise which five of the seven councillors voted for.

Yesterday Cr Polglase said:

“It’s got to the stage now if it’s not Katie Milne’s way, it’s no way. Tweed Shire Council has never been like that.”
